A Love Story Beyond Time: Jordan & Duncan's Swedish Wedding

(told by Louise at Lovelu)

Every now and then, a love story comes along that stays with you long after the last champagne glass has been cleared. Jordan and Duncan’s was one of those stories.

When they first reached out to me, I almost rescheduled our meeting. It was a busy week, and when I glanced at the email, I assumed it was a musician or a vendor wanting to present their services. But when I took a closer look, I realized it was actually a couple asking for help with wedding planning.

I am so incredibly glad I didn’t move that meeting. From the very first second we met, I felt such an instant connection with them. We laughed right away, the conversation flowed so easily, and I remember thinking, these two are going to be so much fun to work with. They later told me they felt exactly the same.

From that moment on, the journey of planning their wedding was pure joy. Every meeting was filled with laughter, creativity, and warmth. What we created together became something far beyond a wedding, it was a living, breathing celebration of love, connection, and authenticity.

And so, here’s their story, just as it unfolded.

Some love stories arrive quietly, others with fireworks. Jordan and Duncan’s began in an unexpected, almost cinematic way, and unfolded into a wedding that felt less like an event and more like a living poem, intimate, personal, and unforgettable.

“When we met, something just clicked”

It all started on Jordan’s birthday in Hollywood. Among the handful of friends gathered, one showed up with an unexpected plus one. That plus one was Duncan. The moment the gate opened and their eyes met, something happened.

They spent the evening talking, dancing, flirting. By the next morning Duncan had moved in. “When you know, you know,” they say. And they knew.

The Proposal: Disco Lights and Forever

Fast forward to 2020. Lockdown in Amsterdam. The world was quiet, nights blurred into days. To hold on to a sense of joy, they recreated the feeling of the clubs where they first met, just the two of them, wine, music, and a YouTube disco light flickering on the wall.

“We were a little extra melancholic those days,” Jordan recalls. But on this particular night, after a little dancing, he slipped away. Duncan wondered if something was wrong. Fifteen minutes later, Jordan returned, hands behind his back, nerves in his smile. With the disco lights glowing and the music fading into the background, he knelt down and asked, “Will you marry me?”

Finding the Perfect Place

Once engaged, they knew they wanted to gather their closest friends and family in Sweden. Both Jordan and Duncan had been working here with music, Jordan as a producer and Duncan as an artist, perhaps best known to many as the winner of Eurovision with the unforgettable song Arcade, with the words “loving you is a losing game”… so a destination Sweden wedding was perfect!

I went together with Jordan and Duncan to visit several historic villas and castles outside Stockholm, each with its own unique charm and story. But the moment they stepped onto the grounds of Häringe Slott, something clicked.

“The beautiful outdoor theatre felt like the perfect stage for our ceremony, the swimming pool for cocktails and cake, the vintage bowling lane for late night fun,” they said. It was not only about a venue, it was about creating an experience where their guests could feel at home and part of something magical.

The Outfits: Dream Suits Come True

Both knew they wanted to wear black suits, but they wanted them to reflect their individuality too. They discovered Mans, a Madrid-based menswear brand, and fell in love with the pieces. With the help of their stylist, they managed to make it happen in time.

The suits looked effortlessly harmonious, each distinct yet perfectly paired. Jordan finished his look with earrings from Swedish jeweler Maria Nilsdotter, while Duncan kept it minimal. Their wedding bands, from Tiffany & Co., shone as the centerpiece.

A Ceremony Written in Light

The day began separately, each in a different wing of the castle, surrounded by best friends and family. Then came the first look moment, a pathway lined with statues, trees, and the lake in view. Standing back to back, nerves building, waiting for the signal to turn around. And when they did, they fell into each other’s arms and shared the poems they had written for one another. I will always remember this moment from the day.

Walking hand in hand toward their ceremony, they were clear: this was not about tradition. “Against all odds, we chose to walk down the aisle together,” they said. “We didn’t want anyone to give us away. Deep inside, we knew we were choosing each other.”

As the sun broke through the clouds, the notes of a string quartet filled the air Snow Patrol, Elvis Presley, Sufjan Stevens, The Beach Boys. Natural flowers, lilies and baby’s breath, framed the outdoor theatre. Their close friend and amazing singer Judy Blank officiated, filling the ceremony with humor, heart, and light. It was honestly one of the most beautifully written ceremonies ever, so emotional and sweet.

An Intimate Dinner, A Thousand Emotions

After champagne by the pool, they walked onto the castle terrace where dinner awaited. White florals and candlelight framed a warm, elegant table. Handmade table numbers, a clay bar menu, wooden chairs, the details were unique, timeless, and personal. Together with them I crafted a vision that felt modern yet timeless, natural yet sophisticated, making sure the entire celebration carried their personal story.

Guests were treated to a menu that was summery and fresh with a Swedish Toast Skagen, Arctic char with glazed celeriac, crème brûlée with fresh berries. A Swedish wine pairing. And later, vegan mini burgers as midnight snacks.

Speeches flowed, some with laughter, some with tears.

The Unexpected Moments

Tradition came with surprises too. During dinner, a Swedish custom revealed itself, one they had never heard of. Whenever one groom left the table, the other was showered with kisses on the cheek from eager guests. At first it was surprising, but soon it turned into one of the most charming and memorable rituals of the evening. It made everyone laugh, and gave their international guests a glimpse into Swedish wedding traditions that made the day feel even more special.

And then came the wildest turn. At the height of the party, Jordan shouted, “Let’s all jump in the pool!” Within moments, guests were in their underwear, splashing, laughing, singing. Duncan’s mother appeared with towels, making sure no one caught a chill. Soon after, they all ran back to the dance floor, dripping wet, towels wrapped around their bodies, as if they had come straight from a spa to the party. Hysterical, magical, unforgettable. If you would see those pictures from the photocorner, haha ;)

Their first dance, “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole, was romantic and timeless. But the pool plunge may have stolen the night.

A Celebration That Lasts Forever

The next morning, guests gathered on the terrace again for breakfast, some more ready than others, and the air was filled with the soft hum of joy.

Jordan and Duncan’s wedding wasn’t about perfection. It was about authenticity, intimacy, and love in its purest form. From the poems they wrote to each other to the pool they leapt into with friends, every detail was a testament to who they are: fearless, creative, deeply connected.

At Lovelu, we love working with couples who come from creative backgrounds, open minded and full of ideas, couples who care about creating experiences and “lovefests”. With Jordan and Duncan, every choice reflected not only their love for each other, but also their passion for making life something extraordinary to share with others.

And in the end, it wasn’t just a wedding. It was a declaration that love, when chosen fully, is unstoppable.

This wedding reminded me why I do what I do. It’s not about the perfection of the details, though those matter, but about the moments that take your breath away, the laughter, the vulnerability, the joy that fills a room when love is celebrated without limits. Jordan and Duncan will forever hold a special place in my heart, and their story is one I’ll cherish for a very long time.

With all my heart,

Louise
